The Other Screens group has joined forces with Google Earth to help create this unique project. Eu Sou Amazônia (I Am the Amazon) uses Google Earth technology to tell stories in which audiovisual content interacts with maps and graphic overlays, featuring information about the cultures and territories portrayed.
Four directors were involved in the creation and execution of this project: Fernando Meirelles, André D`Elia, Fred Mauro and Lucas Justiniano.
The result features films, VR, audio, photos, illustrations, GIFs and Streetviews, as well as a database containing cartographic, geographic and scientific information that is applied to satellite images of the Earth.
I Am the Amazon is about the connections between people and the planet, embracing nature as our habitat, and understanding our responsibility for the maintenance of the forests and the protection of the peoples at risk.
We’re all nature’s creatures, and everything that affects it has consequences for all of us. It appears obvious, sometimes distant, but it isn’t. This series seeks to bring everyone closer to what the Amazon and its greatness is.
And now we pass the microphone to Fernando Meirelles, who is the curator of this project.
