The series Antonia, produced by O2 for the Globo Network, will make its international debut through Globo International on August 16 in the rest of the Americas, on August 17 in Japan, and on August 27 in Europe, seeking to attract an audience among the many Brazilians who live abroad. The series, based on a feature film directed by Tata Amaral, ran for two years from 2006 to 2007 on the Globo TV Network, and tells the stories of a group of working women living in Vila Brasilândia in São Paulo, who have dreams of becoming successful in the arts.
Dealing with the universe of remote lower income areas was also a theme of the film Maids (a feature film directed by Fernando Meirelles and Nando Olival in 2001). These works, Maids and Antonia, focus on a Brazil rarely seen in the past. Today there are soap operas and songs about these areas that recognize the arrival of a new group of consumers.
