Globo intends to avoid the stereotype of defenseless elderly people in the series Os Experientes (The Ones with Experience), which will premiere on April 10. The four episodes will have stories about the elderly that treat this phase of life in a positive light.
The average age of the protagonists is over 79. The cast includes names such as Juca de Oliveira, Lima Duarte, Orthon Bastos, Selma Egrei and Joanna Fomm.
“Normally people think that when you reach a certain age, the most important part of your life is behind you,” says the narrator before he shows that this isn’t the case.
One example is the episode centered around Yolanda, played by Beatriz Segall. She ends up becoming a hostage in a bank robbery led by Kleber (João Cortes).
In the story she uses her experience to help the police, and at the same time avoid a tragedy because she perceives that the bank robber isn’t such a bad person.
Even though the episodes are independent, they are always linked by one of the characters that “visits” another story.
The series was created by Quico Meirelles in 2012, presented to Globo by his father Fernando in 2013, and filmed that same year. In theory it would have gone on the air in 2014, but the network decided to save it for this year.
